OSD Org Chart: Background Info.
The OSD org chart normally shows the structure of the Office of the Secretary of Defense. The department is the principal staff element of the Secretary of Defense. A series of sub-departments are included in the OSD: the middle-level offices of the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense, Under Secretaries of Defense, Director of Defense Research and Engineering, Assistant Secretaries of Defense, General Counsel, Director of Operational Test and Evaluation, Assistants to the Secretary of Defense, Director of Administration and Management. Some other divisions play a supportive role in managing daily tasks.
Relationships with Other Agencies
OSD is included in the DoD org chart, which shows the America Department of Defense. The latter one covers the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and some U.S. multinational commands. Furthermore, the DoD has the right to control the Coast Guard in the early years of wartime. which belongs to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The headquarter of the DoD is in Washington, D.C. All of these defense agencies and departments in the United States of America are protected by the Pentagon Force Protection Agency.
The Recent Development of OSD
For the recent year, the Congress is designed to clarify the OSD in order to move toward an official standardization of conventions. A large number of defense offices and Assistant Secretaries in the OSD org chart have been appointed by the President. In such case, the Senate offers suggestions and feedback for the individual employee. So far a series of positions have been eliminated.
